SIXTH STREET PARC: 12 ACRES OF PARK SPACE COMING TO BOYLE HEIGHTS

One of the most exciting infrastructure projects in Los Angeles history is taking shape right here in Boyle Heights. The Sixth Street PARC (Park, Arts, River & Connectivity) will create 12 acres of open and recreational space in areas underneath and adjacent to the new Sixth Street Viaduct β€” the iconic bridge that connects historic Boyle Heights with the Arts District and crosses the Los Angeles River.

The more than $80 million project is expected to reach substantial completion by late 2026, with a grand opening planned shortly after.

πŸ—οΈ WHAT'S BEING BUILT

The park will be divided into distinct zones, each offering different amenities:

East Side (Boyle Heights side)

β€’ Meadows and picnic areas
β€’ Children's play area with modern playground equipment
β€’ Event space for community gatherings
β€’ Sports courts and fitness amenities

Center (Under the Bridge)

β€’ Leonard Hill Arts Plaza
β€’ Performance amphitheater with stage
β€’ Garden areas with terrace seating
β€’ CafΓ© space

West Side (Arts District side)

β€’ Performance lawn for concerts and events
β€’ Dog park
β€’ Fitness equipment area
β€’ River-adjacent pathways

πŸ™οΈ WHY THIS MATTERS

Boyle Heights and East LA have long been underserved when it comes to green space and recreational facilities. The Sixth Street PARC will provide much-needed outdoor areas for families, children, and the entire community. The project also connects Boyle Heights to the growing LA River revitalization effort.

πŸ”§ OTHER EASTSIDE DEVELOPMENTS IN 2026

β€’ Self Help Graphics & Art, the beloved Eastside printmaking institution, is completing its $15 million renovation this summer with a public reopening planned for fall 2026.
β€’ Street improvements along Cesar Chavez Avenue between Evergreen Cemetery and Brittania Street will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
β€’ All four boundary monuments marking unincorporated East LA are slated for completion by March 2026, featuring colorful tile mosaics and energy-efficient lighting.

The Eastside is changing fast β€” and these community-centered projects are a welcome investment in the neighborhood's future.
