BIG CHANGES COMING TO BOYLE HEIGHTS & EAST LA IN 2026

The Eastside of Los Angeles is undergoing a wave of community-centered development in 2026. From a massive new park under the 6th Street Bridge to the renovation of a beloved art institution, here are the six biggest projects transforming Boyle Heights and East LA this year.

1️⃣ SIXTH STREET PARC
The most ambitious project on the Eastside, the Sixth Street PARC (Park, Arts, River & Connectivity) will create 12 acres of recreational space underneath the iconic 6th Street Viaduct. Features include an amphitheater, cafΓ©, dog park, sports courts, playgrounds, and river-adjacent pathways. The $80+ million project is expected to open in late 2026.

2️⃣ SELF HELP GRAPHICS & ART RENOVATION
Self Help Graphics & Art, the Eastside's printmaking and art institution for over 50 years, is completing its nearly $15 million renovation this summer. The community art center will reopen to the public in fall 2026 with expanded gallery space, new studios, and modern facilities while preserving its role as a cultural anchor for the Latino arts community.

3️⃣ CESAR CHAVEZ AVENUE STREET IMPROVEMENTS
Residents can expect improved sidewalks and streets between Evergreen Cemetery and Brittania Street along Cesar Chavez Avenue. The project focuses on increasing safety, mobility, and visibility for pedestrians and bicyclists in one of Boyle Heights' busiest corridors.

4️⃣ EAST LA BOUNDARY MONUMENTS
All four monuments that mark the boundaries of unincorporated East Los Angeles are slated for completion by March 2026. The project includes colorful tile mosaics, energy-efficient lighting, landscaping, and decking, creating distinctive markers that celebrate East LA's identity and heritage.

5️⃣ BOYLE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY PLAN UPDATE
The City of Los Angeles is updating the Boyle Heights Community Plan for the first time in decades. This plan will shape zoning, housing, transportation, and park access for years to come. Community input sessions have been ongoing.

6️⃣ BOYLE HEIGHTS YOUTH FESTIVAL (JUNE 6)
The 2026 Boyle Heights Youth Festival is set for June 6, from 3-7 PM. This beloved East LA tradition is completely led by teens and young adults, who organize everything from booking entertainers to ordering thousands of paletas from local vendors.

The Eastside is investing in its future while honoring its rich cultural heritage. These projects represent a commitment to green space, arts, safety, and community pride.
